Kansas State Nurses' Association records, 1912-1981.

This collection consists of the recorded history of the organization from its beginnings, its early battles for acceptance by nurses across the state, its efforts to get the Legislature to pass the Nurses Registration Law, and its efforts to standardize educational requirements for nursing students & to raise salaries to national averages. Included are the Association's constitution, by-laws, membership lists, minutes of annual & board meetings, correspondence with the American Nurses' Foundation & of The Kansas Nurse Editor Florence Nelson, newspaper clippings, pamphlets, manuals, receipts, programs & invitations to annual meetings, reports, and proclamations. Also included are the Association's affiliation with the American Nurses' Association & American Nurses' Foundation through reports, manuals, and correspondence. There is documentation of early nursing methods and representations of early apparel & hospital conditions. The records also depict an organization founded and run by women in the 20th century.
